Glove boxes are a large piece of laboratory equipment which became more and more popular in industry and academia over the years. Nowadays even entire production lines n industry exist inside the inert environment glove boxes provide. But especially in academia the knowledge of how to work with / inside a glove box and how to maintain it tends to deteriorate over time due to the high fluctuation of personnel (PhD students, post docs, etc.) inherent to it. Skills and knowledge about glove boxes are usually not teached in lectures / lab courses and therefore acquired and passed down internally of the respective research groups. This leads to poorly maintained or even damaged glove boxes and also to the lost of work techniques as well as dogmatic procedures. During my time as a PhD student I worked in the field of inorganic / organometallic chemistry for which I used glove boxes quite extensively. I also took the responsibility to maintain them . After reading Andryj Borys great Schlenk Line Survival Guide (DOI: 10.1021/acs.organomet.2c00535) I thought to myself something similar dedicated to glove boxes would be helpful to other people. So I started this glove box guide to share the information I gathered during my academic journey to others.
